Tea Tree Oil is a concentrated essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia, sold in a 30 ml bottle and manufactured in the Netherlands for Coral Club. The card lists a single ingredient: tea tree oil. The product is a cosmetic for external use.
Coral Club states that the oil absorbs well into the skin and is known for purifying and refreshing properties, helping maintain the appearance of clear skin and reduce the look of visible redness.
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Keep out of reach of children.
Tea tree oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia, a shrub native to Australia. It contains a natural mixture of terpenes; Coral Club lists monoterpenes, diterpenes, cineole, viridiflorol and terpineol among its components. Tea tree oil is used in cosmetics for oily and combination skin and in hair and scalp products, usually at low concentrations in a finished formula rather than neat.
This is a concentrated oil, not a ready-to-use product. Coral Club's directions are to add one or two drops to a moist cotton pad for application to the relevant area of skin, to dilute it for sensitive skin, and not to use it at full strength on the face. A common way to dilute an essential oil is to mix a few drops into a carrier oil, such as almond or jojoba oil, or into an unscented cream. Essential oils do not mix into water, so adding drops to water does not dilute them.
Tea tree oil is one of the more frequent causes of allergic contact reactions among essential oils, and oxidized oil — old, or exposed to air, light and warmth — is more likely to provoke one. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the light, and test a diluted amount on the inside of the forearm for 48 hours before first use. Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Sources are listed under Research.
Tea tree oil is toxic if swallowed, and cases of poisoning have been reported, particularly in children. Keep the bottle out of reach of children and pets and never take it internally.
Coral Club also offers Emu Oil with Tea Tree Oil, a ready-diluted blend in which tea tree oil is one ingredient among several carrier oils.
Shelf life is 5 years. Store in a dry place at room temperature, with the cap closed.

Coral Club names monoterpenes, diterpenes, cineole, viridiflorol and terpineol among the naturally occurring compounds in the oil. No standardization figure — for example terpinen-4-ol or cineole content — is published on the card.
