Ginerra is a dietary supplement manufactured in Slovenia for Coral Club. Each plant-based capsule contains three ingredients: 200 mg of Mucosave® FG, 75 mg of deglycyrrhizinated licorice root extract and 50 mg of L-glutamine. The label directs one capsule twice a day with or after meals, so a bottle of 60 capsules lasts 30 days.

Mucosave® FG is a patented combination of two Sicilian plant extracts: the cladodes (flat stems) of the prickly pear cactus, Opuntia ficus-indica, and the leaves of the olive tree, Olea europaea. Opuntia cladodes are rich in mucilaginous polysaccharides, and olive leaves in polyphenols. Coral Club states that the complex helps maintain the digestive lining.*
The published randomized trial of Mucosave® tested a different product: a drink formulation combining the extract with sodium alginate and bicarbonate, at 6 g a day. Its results therefore cannot be transferred directly to a 200 mg capsule. The study is listed under Research.
DGL is licorice root extract from which most of the glycyrrhizin has been removed. Glycyrrhizin is the licorice compound that can raise blood pressure and lower potassium when taken regularly in larger amounts, so DGL is the form usually chosen for supplements taken over weeks. Licorice root also contains flavonoids and mucilaginous substances.
L-glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body and an important energy source for the cells lining the intestine. Two capsules provide 100 mg a day — a small amount compared with the several grams a day that many people obtain from protein in food.
Coral Club's card for Ginerra carries no supplement facts panel and does not list the excipients by name, only "excipients". It lists individual intolerance as the only precaution. As with any supplement, anyone pregnant or nursing, or taking prescription medication, should consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Persistent or recurring digestive discomfort should be assessed by a doctor.
Coral Club labels the capsules plant-based and suitable for vegetarians. Shelf life is 2 years from the production date. Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, at 60–75°F (16–24°C), out of reach of children.
