Omega 3 Oranges

Omega 3 Oranges are chewable fish oil capsules with a natural orange flavor, manufactured in Germany for Coral Club. Each capsule contains 500 mg of fish oil, providing 150 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, including 80 mg of EPA and 50 mg of DHA. The label directs children over four years old to chew one capsule daily, so a bottle of 30 lasts a month.

Coral Club states that omega-3 fatty acids support a child's growth and development, including healthy brain and eye function.*

EPA and DHA for children

EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found mainly in oily fish. DHA is concentrated in the brain and the retina of the eye. The body makes only small amounts from plant omega-3s, so children who rarely eat fish such as salmon, sardines or mackerel get little of either from their diet. One capsule adds 130 mg of EPA and DHA combined; the remaining 20 mg of the 150 mg omega-3 total are other omega-3 fatty acids.

Coral Club also states that EPA and DHA support focus, learning and healthy visual-motor coordination in children.* A varied diet that includes fish, eggs, nuts and seeds remains the foundation of a child's omega-3 intake; a supplement adds to it.

Allergens

The card's allergen statement reads: contains fish oil and soy. Soy does not appear in the listed ingredients, but the manufacturer declares it, so the product should be treated as containing soy. Children with a fish or soy allergy should not take it.

Safe use for children

• Only for children over four years old, as the label directs.
• Supervise young children while they chew, and make sure the capsule is chewed properly.
• Store the bottle out of reach — chewable, flavored supplements can be mistaken for sweets.
• Give only one capsule a day, and check with a pediatrician if your child takes other supplements or medicines.

What else is in the capsule

Natural orange flavor, gelatin, glycerin, corn starch, purified water and tapioca starch. Coral Club describes the capsules as made from beef gelatin and labels the product gluten free, so it is not suitable for vegetarians. Each capsule provides 5 calories and 0.5 g of fat.

Storage

Shelf life is 2 years. Store in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at no more than 77°F (25°C), out of reach of children.
