Pau d'arco — also known as lapacho, taheebo or ipê roxo — is the inner bark of a flowering tree native to Central and South America. It has a long history of traditional use and is commonly prepared as a tea or taken as powdered bark. The bark contains naturally occurring naphthoquinones, including lapachol and beta-lapachone, along with other plant compounds. Coral Club states that pau d'arco supports the body's natural defenses.*
The capsules contain simply powdered bark, not a concentrated extract, and the card does not state the lapachol content. Because naturally grown bark varies, the amount of active compounds in any pau d'arco product can differ from batch to batch.
