Yummy Vits orange flavor

Yummy Vits orange flavor is a vitamin and mineral complex for children in the form of orange-flavored chewable jellies. One pack holds 30 jellies, and children over 3 years of age are recommended to chew one jelly daily. Coral Club connects the formula with healthy growth, immune function and bone health.*

What is in one jelly

Each jelly carries ten nutrients: vitamins A, D3 and E, four B-group nutrients (B6, folate, B12 and pantothenic acid), the trace minerals iodine and selenium, and choline. Amounts per jelly and the % Daily Values are in the Composition tab.

Coral Club states that the product is made with ConCordix® technology, which the card describes as a way of optimizing the bioavailability of the nutrients. No comparative absorption figure for this product is published on the card.

Taste and sweeteners

The jellies are sweetened with xylitol and sorbitol rather than sugar, and flavored with natural orange flavor; paprika extract gives the color. Xylitol and sorbitol are sugar alcohols: in larger amounts than the label directs, they can loosen stools or cause gas in some children. One jelly a day keeps the amount small.

A note for households with dogs: xylitol is toxic to dogs even in small amounts, so keep the pack out of their reach as well as out of reach of children.

Iodine and the thyroid

Each jelly supplies 20 mcg of iodine, 13% of the Daily Value. Coral Club directs anyone with thyroid disease, or taking iodine-containing medicines, to consult a health care practitioner before use. Iodine adds up across foods and supplements, so count iodized salt and any other multivitamin.

Gelatin and dietary notes

The jelly base is gelatin with arabic gum, so the product is not vegetarian or vegan. Coral Club labels it gluten free. Sunflower oil is part of the base and helps carry the fat-soluble vitamins A, D3 and E.

Why a chewable form

Chewing removes the main obstacle for young children, who cannot yet swallow tablets or capsules reliably. A jelly also carries fat-soluble vitamins in an oil base rather than a dry powder, which is why sunflower oil appears high on the ingredient list. The trade-off is the sugar alcohol content and the fact that a jelly looks and tastes like a sweet, so the pack belongs on a shelf children cannot reach.

Manufacture and storage

Manufactured in Norway. Shelf life is 2 years. Keep the pack closed, store it away from heat and direct sunlight, and keep it out of reach of children — chewable jellies look like candy, which is exactly why the daily amount should be handed out by an adult.
