Microhydrin by Coral Club
Microhydrin was a powdered antioxidant supplement in capsules that Coral Club sold for many years. It is no longer available in the Coral Club shops in the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada.

What Microhydrin was
Microhydrin was developed by the American researcher Patrick Flanagan and sold by several companies, Coral Club among them. It was a fine silica-based mineral powder in capsules. The manufacturer described it as silica bound to hydrogen — a “silica hydride” — and marketed it as a source of antioxidant activity that supports energy and helps protect cells from oxidative stress.
Coral Club also used the ingredient in MicroBrite, a tooth powder. Neither product is sold today.
What the studies found
Only a handful of studies looked at Microhydrin, and they point in different directions. A small trial with six trained cyclists, run with a company that sold Microhydrin, reported lower blood lactate after a 40 km time trial but no difference in performance, heart rate or oxygen uptake.
An independent randomized, double-blind study at the University of Guelph gave seven trained cyclists 9.6 g of Microhydrin or a placebo over 48 hours. Infrared analysis of the product found no silica–hydrogen bonds, and supplementation did not change time-trial performance, fat or carbohydrate use, or blood lactate.
A study in rats measured blood lactate and markers of oxidative stress before and after exercise. Together, the research is too small and too inconsistent to show a clear effect.
