Oceanmin is a dietary supplement manufactured in Taiwan from deep-ocean water. Each 1 g sachet contains an extract of deep-sea water with at least 120 mg of magnesium, 90 mg of sodium, 35 mg of potassium and 0.9 mg of calcium. The powder is dissolved in 0.75–1 liter of drinking water and drunk during the day after meals. A box of 15 sachets covers 15 days.
Coral Club states that the minerals in Oceanmin help support normal electrolyte balance and energy-yielding metabolism, help reduce occasional fatigue, and support endurance, cognitive performance, the body's response to stress, cardiovascular function and bone health.*
Oceanmin is made with D-MINNERALZ®, a patented process that uses water drawn from a depth of about 600 meters in the Pacific Ocean. According to Coral Club, the sodium content is reduced during production and the other minerals are adjusted, so magnesium becomes the main mineral. Trace elements naturally present in the water remain in small amounts that the card does not list.
When the powder dissolves, the minerals are present as ions — magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium — the same form in which minerals occur in any mineral water.
The Daily Value for magnesium is 420 mg, so one sachet provides at least 29% of it. The card gives amounts as minimums ("not less than"), so the real content can be slightly higher. For adults, the upper intake level for magnesium from supplements is 350 mg a day; one sachet stays well below it, but magnesium from other supplements counts toward the same limit.
Coral Club notes that magnesium intake may be low in people who exercise regularly or do physically demanding work, drink alcohol or smoke often, live where tap water is soft, follow restrictive diets or fast, or experience frequent stress. US dietary surveys show that many adults eat less magnesium than recommended.
At 90 mg, the sodium in a sachet is about 4% of the Daily Value. Potassium (35 mg) and calcium (0.9 mg) are present in amounts too small to count toward daily needs; their role here is as part of the electrolyte mix rather than as a source of either mineral.
The card advises consulting a doctor before use and lists pregnancy, breastfeeding and individual intolerance to the components as reasons for caution. People with reduced kidney function should ask a physician before taking magnesium supplements, and anyone on a sodium-restricted diet can count the 90 mg per sachet into their daily total.
