What MSM is
Methylsulfonylmethane is a naturally occurring organic sulfur compound, found in small amounts in foods such as fruits, vegetables, grains and milk. Sulfur is a component of the amino acids methionine and cysteine and of structural proteins such as keratin and collagen. Coral Club states that sulfur supports the formation of collagen, keratin and the structural components of cartilage.*
MSM has been studied for joint comfort and exercise recovery, mostly at doses of 1.5 to 6 g a day — two to eight times the 750 mg in one capsule. The Research tab lists a review of its applications and safety.
Vitamin C and biotin
Vitamin C is needed for the normal formation of collagen, which gives skin, blood vessels and connective tissue their structure.* Biotin (vitamin B7) supports normal energy metabolism and is involved in the metabolism of fats and amino acids.* Coral Club states that biotin supports healthy skin and nails.*
A note on biotin and lab tests
High doses of biotin — typically milligrams, far above the 50 mcg here — can interfere with some laboratory tests, including certain thyroid and heart tests. At this amount interference is unlikely, but it is still good practice to tell your doctor about all supplements before blood tests.
