Pau d'arco — also called lapacho or taheebo — is the inner bark of a South American tree with a long history of traditional use. It contains naturally occurring naphthoquinones, including lapachol and beta-lapachone. Coral Club states that it provides antioxidant support.* This product uses powdered bark rather than a concentrated extract, and no lapachol content is stated.
Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant vitamin, needed for normal collagen formation and immune function.* Selenium is an essential trace mineral that forms part of antioxidant enzymes in the body and supports normal immune function.* L-selenomethionine is an organic form of selenium found naturally in foods such as grains and Brazil nuts.
At two capsules a day, the product provides 60 mcg of selenium — just above the adult Daily Value of 55 mcg and well below the Tolerable Upper Intake Level of 400 mcg a day. Selenium from multivitamins, other supplements and Brazil nuts all counts toward that limit.
