Because the card gives no description of this formula's intended purpose, no benefit claims are made here beyond what is known about the ingredients.
The four ingredients
- Beta-alanine is an amino acid the body uses, together with histidine, to make carnosine, which is stored in muscle. Beta-alanine commonly causes a harmless, temporary tingling of the skin (paresthesia), especially with larger single doses.
- Lifenol® hops extract is a hop extract standardized to 8-prenylnaringenin, one of the most potent plant estrogens (phytoestrogens) known.
- Flaxseed lignans are plant compounds that gut bacteria convert into enterolignans, which have weak estrogen-like activity.
- Saffron flower extract is derived from the saffron crocus. Note that the card specifies flower extract, while most saffron research uses the stigma.
Phytoestrogens: who should check first
Hops extract and flax lignans act on estrogen receptors. Anyone with a history of breast, uterine or ovarian conditions that are sensitive to hormones, or taking hormone therapy, hormonal contraception or tamoxifen, should consult a physician before use. Coral Club directs anyone pregnant or nursing to consult a healthcare practitioner; saffron in supplement amounts and phytoestrogens are generally avoided in pregnancy.
Hops are traditionally associated with relaxation, so take care when combining with sedative medicines or alcohol.
