D-Spray 2000 is a vitamin D3 supplement in an oral spray, manufactured in Slovenia for Coral Club. One spray provides 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of vitamin D3 as cholecalciferol, dissolved in MCT coconut oil with a tocopherol-rich extract. The 10 ml bottle holds 170 doses.

Coral Club states that vitamin D3 supports calcium absorption and bone health, especially when sun exposure may be limited, and supports normal immune system function.*

How much is 2,000 IU?

50 mcg is 250% of the Daily Value for vitamin D, which is 20 mcg (800 IU). It is half of the Tolerable Upper Intake Level for adults, set at 100 mcg (4,000 IU) a day from all sources. The upper level counts vitamin D from every source — multivitamins, fortified foods and other supplements — so check what else you take before adding a 2,000 IU daily dose.

Why vitamin D3

The skin makes vitamin D3 when exposed to ultraviolet light. Clothing, sunscreen, time spent indoors, season and latitude all limit that production, which is why low vitamin D levels are common even in sunny regions. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus and plays a role in maintaining healthy bones.*

Spray or capsule?

A spray is convenient for anyone who prefers not to swallow capsules, and needs no water. A randomized crossover study in healthy adults found that vitamin D3 given as an oral spray raised blood 25-hydroxyvitamin D about as much as the same dose in capsules — no more and no less. Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble, which is why the spray uses an oil base and the label directs taking it with a meal. The study is listed under Research.

What is in the bottle

Three ingredients: vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol), MCT coconut oil and a tocopherol-rich extract from vegetable oil, which helps protect the oil from oxidation. Coral Club states the product does not contain soy. It needs no refrigeration.

Who should consult a doctor first

Coral Club lists individual intolerance to the components, pregnancy and breastfeeding among its precautions and directs consulting a doctor before use. Anyone with a history of high blood calcium, or taking thiazide diuretics or digoxin, should also speak to a physician, because vitamin D increases calcium absorption.

Shelf life and storage

Shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Keep the bottle in a dry place at 60–75°F (16–24°C), away from sunlight and out of reach of children. Once opened, use within 6 months. At one spray a day, 170 doses cover about five and a half months, so a bottle is used up within that window.
