The forms used

Beta-carotene and smokers
Two capsules provide 1,800 mcg RAE of vitamin A as beta-carotene, which corresponds to roughly 20 mg of beta-carotene a day. Large trials that gave 20–30 mg of beta-carotene daily to smokers and asbestos-exposed workers found more lung cancer in the supplemented groups, not less. Current US guidance is that people who smoke should avoid beta-carotene supplements. Anyone who smokes or has smoked should discuss this product with a doctor. The trials are listed under Research.
Iodine and the thyroid
Two capsules provide 100 mcg of iodine from kelp — about two thirds of the adult Daily Value. Coral Club directs anyone with a thyroid condition or taking iodine preparations to consult an endocrinologist before use.
What else to keep in mind
- Grapefruit: the bioflavonoid complex includes grapefruit. Grapefruit compounds can affect how the body handles certain medicines; the amount here is small, but ask a pharmacist if you take a medicine that carries a grapefruit warning.
- Other supplements: count vitamins and minerals from other products to avoid doubling up, particularly selenium, zinc, iodine and vitamin E.
