DHA+D3 Smart Chews are chewable tablets with a fruity citrus flavor, manufactured in Norway for Coral Club. Each tablet contains 720 mg of highly purified anchovy fish oil, providing 482 mg of omega-3 fatty acids — including 360 mg of DHA and 72 mg of EPA — together with 12 mcg (480 IU) of vitamin D3, 60% of the Daily Value. They are suitable for children aged 4 and over and for adults, at one tablet a day with a meal.
Coral Club states that the chews support normal brain, nervous system and visual development, and normal bone growth and immune function.*
DHA and EPA
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found mainly in oily cold-water fish. The body makes only limited amounts from plant omega-3s, so they come chiefly from diet or supplements. DHA is present in high concentrations in the gray matter of the brain and in the retina.* Children who rarely eat oily fish get little of either from food.
Vitamin D3
Vitamin D3 supports normal bone growth and development and normal immune system function.* The 12 mcg per tablet is 60% of the Daily Value of 20 mcg and well below the upper intake levels of 75 mcg a day for children aged 4–8 and 100 mcg for older children and adults. Count vitamin D from other supplements and fortified foods.
ConCordix® technology
The fish oil is dispersed as many small droplets within the chewable matrix using ConCordix®, a patented technology developed by Vitux AS. Coral Club states that this helps protect the oil from oxidation and, according to the manufacturer, has been shown to enhance the bioavailability of certain fat-soluble ingredients by up to 44% compared with conventional gel capsules. That figure is the manufacturer's and refers to fat-soluble substances in general, not specifically to this product.
