Coral Artichoke

Coral Artichoke is a dietary supplement manufactured in the USA for Coral Club. Each capsule carries 300 mg of artichoke herb extract alongside three other ingredients, and the bottle holds 90 capsules.

How long a bottle lasts

Coral Club directs one capsule twice a day with a meal, so the daily amount is two capsules — 600 mg of artichoke extract. A bottle of 90 covers 45 days at that rate.

What the manufacturer states

According to Coral Club, the blend helps support liver health, promotes healthy bile flow, contributes to the body's natural detoxification processes and supports normal digestive function.* Ingredient by ingredient, the card states:

• Artichoke — contains naturally occurring compounds such as quercetin, rutin, gallic acid and cynarine, traditionally valued for supporting the digestive tract and helping maintain a healthy gut environment; it also helps support normal metabolic processes.*
• Betaine — helps support the body's natural detoxification processes, healthy lipid metabolism in the liver, and normal blood flow.*
• Milk thistle — traditionally used to help support healthy liver function, may help promote bile production and normal digestive processes; its seeds contain silymarin, which helps support liver cells against everyday stressors.*
• Dandelion root — a bitter herb that supports digestion, helps maintain a healthy appetite and promotes normal bile flow.*

Only one of the four sits at a researched amount

Worth setting out plainly, because the ingredient list alone gives no sense of scale. At two capsules a day the artichoke extract reaches 600 mg, which falls inside the range used in published trials of artichoke leaf extract.

The other three are far smaller. Milk thistle at 40 mg per capsule, 80 mg a day, sits well below the silymarin doses used in clinical work. Dandelion root at 20 mg and betaine HCl at 50 mg are smaller still — betaine hydrochloride is used elsewhere in amounts an order of magnitude higher. Their presence rounds out the blend rather than delivering a studied dose of any one of them.

An unresolved point on the capsule shell

The card states two different things. Among the product labels it reads "Capsules made from beef gelatin". In the ingredient panel, the other ingredients list reads "Capsule (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, water)" — a plant-derived shell.

Both cannot be true. Until Coral Club resolves it, an animal-derived ingredient in the shell cannot be ruled out, and the printed label on the bottle is the reference. The same discrepancy appears on the card for Coral Boswellia.

Labels, storage and shelf life

Coral Club declares the product gluten free and free of soy. Among the other ingredients is coral powder, alongside microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate. The card assigns it no function, and none is claimed here.

Coral Club's stated precaution is that anyone pregnant or nursing should consult a healthcare practitioner before taking the product. Shelf life is 2 years. Store in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 77°F, out of reach of children.
