Quattrobiotic Formula is a dietary supplement manufactured in the USA for Coral Club. Each plant-based capsule contains four probiotic strains totaling 12 billion CFU (colony-forming units) — a figure stated for the end of shelf life — together with 45 mg of inulin from chicory root. The first three listed on the card — L. plantarum, B. lactis and L. johnsonii — make up JPL934™, a patented blend from Ildong Bioscience, Republic of Korea; L. rhamnosus IDCC 3201 is added to it. Unlike many probiotic products, the card names each strain, which matters because probiotic effects are specific to strains.
A randomized, placebo-controlled trial of the three-strain JPL934 preparation in 112 adults with lower digestive symptoms found greater overall symptom relief, and larger reductions in abdominal discomfort and bloating scores, after eight weeks than with placebo. The study was run with the blend's developer, and it did not test the four-strain Quattrobiotic formula itself. It is listed under Research.
The bacteria are coated with Q SHIELD™, a four-layer protective coating designed to help them survive storage and passage through the stomach. The coating is made from yeast protein, trehalose, guar gum and hyaluronic acid. Inulin is a prebiotic fiber that serves as food for beneficial bacteria.*
Coral Club labels Quattrobiotic Formula gluten free and free of soy, with plant-based capsules. Shelf life is 2 years. Store in a dry place at room temperature, out of reach of children. Do not use if the safety seal is broken or missing.
