Coenzyme Q10 is a dietary supplement manufactured in the USA for Coral Club. Each capsule carries 100 mg of ubiquinone, and the bottle holds 60 capsules — a 60-day supply at the directed one capsule a day with a meal.

The form of CoQ10 used here

Coral Club uses Kaneka Q10®, produced in Japan by Kaneka Corporation through a patented fermentation process. According to the manufacturer, this naturally derived form is identical in molecular structure to the CoQ10 the body makes itself.*

Two further ingredients sit alongside it. Medium-chain triglycerides from coconut oil, at 5 mg, help support the absorption and utilization of CoQ10.* Inulin from chicory root, at 125 mg, is a prebiotic fiber that supports nutrient bioavailability and provides nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria.*

What the manufacturer states

Coral Club describes ubiquinone as supporting the body's natural energy-producing processes at the cellular level and as playing an essential role in cellular energy metabolism.* The card adds that the product may help support heart health, support physical energy and endurance during daily activities, support immune health, and maintain vitality and overall well-being.*

Ubiquinone is described on the card as a vitamin-like compound present in every human cell — hence the name, from "ubiquitous quinone" — concentrated in mitochondria, where roughly 95% of the body's ATP is produced. Coral Club notes that the body's own synthesis and its absorption from food both tend to decrease with age.*

How much food 15 mg would take

To put dietary intake in perspective, the card offers a comparison: obtaining about 15 mg of ubiquinone a day from food would mean eating roughly 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) of baked trout, 500 g (1.1 lbs) of lean beef, or 600 g (1.3 lbs) of peanuts. Coral Club adds that actual absorption from food varies between individuals.

Worth noting the arithmetic: that comparison concerns 15 mg, while one capsule here contains 100 mg.

Two practical points

Take the capsule with a meal, as directed. CoQ10 is fat-soluble, which is why the manufacturer pairs it with MCT oil powder and specifies mealtime rather than an empty stomach.

The 125 mg of chicory inulin is relevant to anyone who limits fermentable fiber, since inulin-type fructans are among the carbohydrates that can cause bloating in people who are sensitive to them.

Labels, storage and shelf life

Coral Club declares the product gluten free, made with plant-based capsules and suitable for vegetarians. The capsule shell is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and water. Net weight of the bottle is 16.7 g.

Shelf life is 2 years. Store in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding 77°F, and keep the bottle out of reach of children.
